Simulation games and serious games

Simulation games and serious games enrich courses and offer the opportunity to experience theoretical content in a practical way, to consider different perspectives, and to directly experience the consequences of one’s own decisions in a safe environment and learn from them.

Serious game ‘Neustart’

The serious game ‘Neustart’ begins with a widespread blackout: taking on various roles, participants must make decisions, set priorities and respond to constantly changing circumstances amidst a climate of uncertainty. During the first session of the game, held as part of the Sustainability Management competence module in collaboration with the Excellence Circle, it became clear just how closely energy supply, the economy, politics and society are interlinked – and just how challenging crisis management can be in complex systems. The serious game “Neustart” offers the opportunity to experience theoretical concepts in a practical setting, to adopt different perspectives and to directly experience the consequences of one’s own decisions.

TOPSIM business simulation games

In the TOPSIM – General Management II business simulation, students take on responsibility for managing a simulated company. Based on realistic market data, they make business decisions (e.g. in the areas of production, marketing, finance or human resources) and experience the effects of these decisions over several simulation periods. As a form of practical reflection, TOPSIM serves to systematically analyse, evaluate and refine one’s own actions within the controlled environment of the simulation.
The TOPSIM Start-Up business simulation is used as a practical reflection exercise to apply methods for developing business ideas, as well as to apply and consolidate business management knowledge relevant to setting up a business and the start-up phase within the framework of the simulation game.
