Doctoral students research hearing loss
According to the World Report on Hearing 2021, more than 1.5 billion people worldwide are affected by hearing loss. If left untreated, this can affect the everyday lives and quality of life of those affected.
Landshut University of Applied Sciences is researching this in two projects: While "AgeHearing-QoL" is investigating the influence of psychosocial factors on quality of life in age-associated hearing loss, "HörTrain" is developing a digital training programme to support people with hearing loss in everyday life.
Two new doctoral students are joining the team: Lisa Incerti is researching in the "AgeHearing-QoL" project and Tim Kreitmaier in the "HörTrain" project.
Articulated foot for crutches
Patients who are dependent on crutches for the rest of their lives also need a secure hold on uneven surfaces. The crutch end piece, which creates the connection to the ground, plays a crucial role here. Conventional solutions are not suitable for everyone. A special articulated foot was developed for one patient, which orthopaedic technicians can produce themselves.
Research results published in IJCARS!
The International Journal of Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery (IJCARS) is a renowned journal for papers on computer-assisted surgery. With Serouj Khajarian and Michael Schwimmbeck, two doctoral students from the Medical Technology research group were each able to publish a journal paper this year. Their work falls into the field of augmented reality-guided liver surgery with a focus on tracking and registration procedures.

Review: Medical Technology Innovation Forum
The Medical Technology research centre at Landshut University of Applied Sciences can look back on a successful Innovation Forum Medical Technology 2025. As a further development of the poster symposium on medical technology, which has already been successfully held in recent years, innovative new developments in the healthcare sector were presented to the public again this year. This year's forum also offered interactive and interdisciplinary sessions on the topics of "AI and AR in surgery" and "O(h)riginal technology for pulse oximetry and hearing loss" as well as a presentation of the AI Competence Centre at Landshut University of Applied Sciences.
ZIM HearMotion project launched
The aim of the project is to develop an earable for measuring several vital parameters, which can also be used in cases of restricted blood flow. The aim is to be able to determine oxygen saturation even in sepsis or shock patients. The project is headed by Prof Dr Andreas Breidenassel and is being carried out in collaboration with the Munich-based company Cosinuss GmbH. Maximilian Reiser is joining the team as a doctoral student. Good luck!

Medical technology network
The medical technology network emerged from a funding project in 2012 and comprises industrial and medical partners in the region. Activities in research and teaching are continuously expanding the network. Our network members benefit from knowledge transfer through regular events such as the medical technology poster symposium and contact with our young talent from various degree programmes such as biomedical engineering, computer science and electrical engineering.
Advisory Board for Medical Technology and Health Management
Landshut University of Applied Sciences has a wide range of activities in medical technology and health management. On 7 March 2012, an advisory board with corresponding regulations was established. This advisory board supports and advises the university with recommendations and provides practical and counselling expertise as well as specialist lectures. This ensures that quality criteria are met and continuous further development is guaranteed. The advisory board consists of up to eight members, with an equal number of university members and external experts from medicine, companies, social institutions or specialised schools.
