From company founder to professor

Landshut University of Applied Sciences assumes sustainable responsibility for society

Whether insults, threats, defamation or sexual harassment - she and her non-profit legal service provider are committed to helping those affected by digital violence: Prof. Dr. Sara Siakala, founder and managing director of hatefree gGmbH. Since the winter semester 2023/2024, she has been a professor on the new "Business Psychology & Sustainability Management" course at the Faculty of Business Administration. With her social business, she takes responsibility: she translates sustainable corporate management from theory into business practice and offers specialized legal support. In this way, Siakala contributes to the protection of democratic values and principles in our digital society. As a professor, she will pass on the know-how gained from this work to her students.

Siakala's career

After Siakala completed her Bachelor's degree in International Business Administration at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), she worked in business development at a start-up in Berlin. During this time, she decided to specialize in sustainability management and graduated from Cranfield University in England with a Master of Science degree in Management and Corporate Sustainability with special distinction. Continuing her focus on sustainability, Siakala took up a position as a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute for Sustainable Corporate Management at the University of Ulm for six and a half years following her doctoral internship. There she also taught, researched and acquired third-party funding. During this time, she led a two-year application-oriented research project in the field of "sustainable supply chain management" in cooperation with the BMW Group and successfully completed her doctorate, which dealt with corporate human rights responsibility.

Prof. Dr. Siakala works towards a network for sustainable transformation

Siakala is very much looking forward to bringing her many years of experience in research, teaching, company founding and management to Landshut University of Applied Sciences. She would like to commit herself to the success of the university and the new degree program: "My wish is to network with as many members of Landshut University of Applied Sciences as possible and to work together to drive forward the sustainable transformation of our society in general and Landshut University of Applied Sciences in particular." University President Prof. Dr. Fritz Pörnbacher welcomes this and warmly welcomes Prof. Dr. Sara Siakala: "Sustainability can only succeed if business and people are involved. Ms. Siakala lives this approach as a company founder. She will help our students to recognize which measures make our society sustainable and which only give a good feeling but achieve nothing."
