University council under new leadership

Dr. Josef Schwendner elected chairman by the university council members

The University Council is one of the most important bodies at the Landshut University of Applied Sciences. It met for the first time in the winter semester on November 19th. The most important point was on the agenda - the election of a chairperson.

Before the election, University President Prof. Dr. Fritz Pörnbacher and Senate Chairman Prof. Dr. Valentina Speidel greeted the new university council members: Prof Dr. Gordon Thomas Rohrmair (President Augsburg University of Applied Sciences), Prof. Dr. Johannes Schmidt (Chief Physician, LAKUMED Surgical Clinic), Prof. Dr. Markus Schmitt, Prof. Dr. Stefan Borrmann, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Wunderlich and Birgit Schrädobler (all Senate members).

The external members Prof. Dr. Gabriele Vierzigmann, who held the office of Chair of the University Council until summer, and Dr. Marlies Flieser-Hartl, as well as the former Senate members Prof. Dr. Johann Jaud, Prof. Dr. Peter Scholz, Prof. Dr. Martin Soika and Fabian Dobmeier are no longer members of the University Council.

The election of the new chairperson was eagerly awaited. Election winner was Dr. Josef Schwendner. He is the General Representative and Head of the Legal and Compliance Division at Munich Airport. In addition to the decision of who will be the new chairman of the university council, there was another choice to be made. Confirmed in his office as Vice President for Research and Transfer was Prof. Dr. Holger Timinger.

The university council is made up of university members and personalities from the middle of society, which means that external expertise is included in university planning. In addition to the elected members of the Senate, the University Council has ten external members. The university management, the women's representative and a representative of the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture, Science and Art are also entitled to attend the meetings of the University Council.
