Digitalisation continues to advance. And digitalisation has once again experienced an enormous boost at Landshut University of Applied Sciences – not least because of the coronavirus pandemic. The local savings bank, the Sparkasse Landshut, recently gave some considerable support to assist the university with the provision of new services. A donation of 5,000 Euros to the Friends of Landshut University of Applied Sciences provided funding for six new, high-quality tablets, including accessories.
“We are very grateful to the Sparkasse and the Friends of Landshut University of Applied Sciences for this valuable support,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Fritz Pörnbacher on the occasion of the official presentation of the donation at the university. “These tablets will certainly be of use to our students in the future.” Ludwig Zellner, chair of the Friends of Landshut University of Applied Sciences and a local councillor, was also very pleased with the generous donation: “This investment in education by the Sparkasse Landshut, which regularly chooses to sponsor associations and institutions in our region in a variety of fields, is an important contribution to the future of the student body at the university. The Friends of Landshut University of Applied Sciences therefore express their sincere thanks to the Sparkasse Landshut.”
Tablets for digital education
The future use of the tablets was revealed by Michael Schramm, treasurer of the Friends of Landshut University of Applied Sciences and Manager of the HR Department at the university: “All of the tablets are being donated to our library.” In the future, the students at Landshut will be able to read e-papers and online articles in the tablet format and thereby prepare for presentations and lectures on an optimum basis. “Last year, the university was able to purchase six tablets to support the teaching staff in the faculties thanks to another donation by the Sparkasse,” added Schramm.
Christian Gallwitz, member of the executive team at Sparkasse Landshut, explained that the funds came from the net proceeds of the Sparkasse Savings Lottery in Bavaria (Sparkassen-PS-Sparen und Gewinnen). Some of the funds from the lottery are supporting projects which are considered particularly effective in the field of education. “The importance of digital capabilities has become particularly clear to our society in the current pandemic. With this donation, we are pleased to support the work of the university and its students. We are convinced that these funds have been put to good use,” explained Gallwitz.
