It is a piece of news that many students have been eagerly anticipating – and from October, the waiting is finally over. The library at Landshut University of Applied Sciences is returning to 24-hour operation. This means that students can study or write essays into the small hours of the morning.
“We are very pleased to be able to offer around-the-clock access to our university library once again in time for the winter semester,” explains University President Prof. Dr Fritz Pörnbacher. The coronavirus pandemic had made this impossible for a long time. With the new opening hours, the university management is also responding to the wish expressed by the members of the university – who had lobbied strongly for the reintroduction of the 24 hour library.
In 2002, Landshut University of Applied Sciences was the first university in Germany to introduce a library concept of this kind. The use of the reading rooms and borrowing services is also possible during the night and on weekends – 365 days a year. Outside the standard opening hours, staff are not onsite. The access takes place with a transponder and/or a student card. Readers are able to borrow library resources on a digital basis at two terminals.
