“A warm and hearty welcome to Landshut”

University President Prof. Dr Fritz Pörnbacher and the Mayor of Landshut Alexander Putz welcome the new International Students

It has become a tradition to not only welcome the newly arrived international students at the campus but also with an official reception in the ceremonial room at Landshut’s town hall. More than 20 young people are starting their foreign adventure in the “City of Three Helmets” this winter semester. The students come from China, Spain, Italy, France, Peru, Finland, the United States, Azerbaijan, Nigeria and Ukraine.

The international students were visibly impressed by the openness of Landshut’s mayor, who not only gave an insight into the city’s history over the past few centuries, but was also available to answer all kinds of questions and encouraged the young people to email him personally with any other concerns. The university president echoed this by encouraging the internationals not to be shy. He promised them an eventful time with many great and unique experiences over the coming months.

The welcome at the town hall is part of the “Welcome Weeks” organised by the International Office every year for the new arrivals. The students and the IO team undertake trips to Landshut, Munich, Regensburg or Neuschwanstein Castle together. The International Office is assisted by “buddies”, who are the first port of call if the international students have any questions and who offer them continuous support.
