This module provides an introduction to photography and film as central cultural forms of expression that shape perception, memory, and understanding of the world. It covers historical developments, iconic works, and relevant genres. Images are analyzed as aesthetic, social, and philosophical statements.
Practical exercises sharpen visual perception, for example in terms of light, color, form, and rhythm, and connect technical decisions with meaning and intention. Storytelling plays a central role, supporting the translation of ideas into compelling still and moving images. The module provides a critical foundation for a reflective approach to contemporary visual media.
In postmodernity, identity has become a central concept—both in the humanities and cultural studies as well as in marketing and popular culture. This module focuses on the critical reflection and practical exploration of ways to represent individuals and their cultural contexts. In addition, it addresses and further develops one’s own presentation as a creatively and conceptually engaged practitioner.
The focus of this module is the development of independent, concept-based creative projects with a theoretical and scholarly foundation. Participants analyze artistic practices, media effects, as well as presentation and exhibition contexts. Abstract ideas are translated into coherent visual, spatial, or narrative forms and reflected upon through writing, documentation, and storytelling.
