Integrated experiential education

A bridge between theory and practice.

The University Certificate in Integrated Experiential Education at Landshut University of Applied Sciences offers a unique opportunity to explore and practically apply the dynamics of experiential education and outdoor training in social work. This part-time programme, consisting of approx. 13 training days, is ideal for professionals who want to expand their knowledge and integrate action-oriented, experiential methods into their everyday work.

Innovative training modules

The first module of the certificate programme is dedicated to cooperative adventure games and offers a practice-oriented "taster day". Here you will learn how co-operative games and problem-solving tasks can be used effectively in experiential education to promote teamwork and social skills. This module combines activating practice with sound theory to create an in-depth understanding of the application of experiential education methods in various social fields of work. You will experience how learning processes are stimulated and interpersonal relationships strengthened through shared experience and action in the group.

In module 2, you will immerse yourself in the world of winter adventure education. Surrounded by the picturesque backdrop of Lake Walchensee and its surroundings, you will experience first-hand how igloo building, overnight stays in self-built snow shelters, sweat lodge experiences and snowshoeing become powerful experiential education tools. The unique combination of adventure and learning in this module not only promotes personal development, but also strengthens your ability to lead groups in challenging and inspiring winter landscapes.

Module 3 focuses on the element of rock and offers exciting activities such as climbing, abseiling and exploring via ferratas. In the impressive natural environment around Lake Walchensee, you will learn high and low ropes course techniques as well as the basics of caving. These experiences are not only physically challenging, but also promote trust, team spirit and personal boundary experiences. This module combines adventure with educational value and creates unforgettable learning moments in nature.

In the fourth module, you will learn how to effectively organise raft building and raft trips with groups and plan boat or canoe tours. This module uses the element of water to strengthen key skills such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills. Module 4 also takes place at Walchensee.

In the fifth and final module of the university certificate in Integrated Experiential Education, you will explore the application of experiential education in the urban context of the city of Munich. This module shows how City Bound activities and experiential urban explorations can be used to promote social skills, teamwork and problem solving in an urban environment. You will learn how the urban environment can be used as a vibrant learning space that offers a variety of opportunities for creative and interactive experiential educational interventions. By shifting the focus from nature to the city, this module offers a new perspective and expands the spectrum of experiential education to include the dimension of urban space.

Experiential education in a unique environment

While the kick-off of the certificate programme takes place at our campus in Landshut, we use a rustic hut in the immediate vicinity of the picturesque Walchensee for modules 2 to 4 of our certificate programme. This secluded location not only provides an impressive backdrop for our activities, but also promotes intensive learning and community. The shared overnight stays and self-catering in the great outdoors make for a special experience.
