Bachelor

The mastery of engineering methods in dealing with IT problems is at the centre of the course. The educational objective of the Bachelor's degree programme is to impart sound knowledge of IT systems with regard to their logical structure and functions. The computer scientist should also be familiar with the most important techniques of software development at the various levels (from the user-oriented, problem-oriented level to the machine-oriented, device-oriented level), with their use in system and application development and with IT organisation.

    Programme content

The core subjects of the Bachelor's degree programme in Computer Science are the fundamentals of computer science, mathematics, programming, software engineering, databases, internet technology, compilers, algorithms and data structures, IT security and computer architectures.

    Study programme

The Bachelor's degree programme comprises 7 semesters. The first part of the programme lasts 2 semesters. It essentially teaches the basics of computer science, mathematics and programming. The five-semester second stage of the programme includes the core subjects of computer science as well as application-related subject areas. The fifth semester is a practical semester of 80 working days in industry with accompanying courses at the university. Entry into the practical semester requires that all examinations of the first study phase have been passed. The faculty welcomes the completion of the practical semester abroad. In this case, the accompanying courses are cancelled. The sixth and seventh semesters serve to deepen the fundamentals and to gain an overview of the interrelationships between the disciplines in computer science.

The module overview in the degree programme provides a graphical representation of the course content over the seven semesters, including a chronological order and distribution of ECTS credits.

    Internship

All degree programmes at the Faculty of Computer Science have a high practical and application orientation.
In addition to the theoretical lectures, many of the programmes offered include practical work placements. Project work also serves to put what has been learnt into practice. In the 5th semester, students also complete a practical semester of at least 80 working days in a company of their choice in Germany or abroad.
