International bridges: Visit from Lima to Landshut University of Applied Sciences

On 3 and 4 June, Dr Guido Silva visited Landshut University of Applied Sciences with a group of students from the Civil Engineering course at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru in Lima.

As part of a two-day visit, a group from the Civil Engineering degree programme at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru from Lima took part in numerous laboratory tours. These were conducted by Prof Hofmann, Prof Michal and Prof Fischer, all from the Faculty of Mechanical and Civil Engineering. The group also got to know other lecturers from the faculty and their fields of activity and gained a comprehensive insight into the infrastructure of the Landshut University of Applied Sciences campus.

Hands-on research

Another focus of the visit was the professional dialogue in the field of civil engineering. The students presented their research projects and found out about current projects at Landshut University of Applied Sciences, such as the research project "Small biogas plants made from textile materials", led by Prof Hofmann. Following presentations by Prof Babel, Prof Huber and Prof Saage, also from the Faculty of Mechanical and Civil Engineering, there was also a tour of the additive manufacturing and lightweight construction laboratories. Here, the guests were able to marvel at models from the 3D printer and received a small model of St Martin's Church in Landshut as a souvenir.

Exchange enriches both sides

There was also plenty of opportunity for exchange with local academic staff and students, which meant that the visit also promoted intercultural and academic networking. Dr Silva, Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering, and his students discussed possibilities for future research cooperation between the two universities with Dr Hedwig Maurer, Research Officer.

The group then visited two other German universities, TU Munich and TU Dresden, before travelling home.

The visit was organised by Prof. Fischer, in collaboration with Dr Maurer and the International Office of Landshut University of Applied Sciences.
