Smart Economies and Municipalities

Abstract

Sustainability is no longer an additional consideration in economic and technological development. It has become a central design task – technological, economic, ecological, societal, and organizational. Companies, municipalities, and public institutions must combine environmental responsibility, economic performance, and technological innovation rather than address them separately.

The contributions to this edition of the Foot Print magazine of SIOB students reflect this challenge from different perspectives. They cover circular and responsible economies, challenges in public energy supply, and smart solutions in the age of artificial intelligence. These fields may initially appear distinct, but they address the same underlying question: how can economic, technological, and societal systems be designed to remain efficient, resource-conscious, resilient, and adaptable over the long term?
