Landshut University of Applied Sciences tops the list

In the CHE University Ranking 2022/23, the engineering sciences performed exceptionally well

In the annual CHE ranking published by “Die Zeit” every May, Landshut University of Applied Sciences proved able to maintain its leading position in terms of a Bavarian and German comparison. The focus of the student ratings in 2022/23 is primarily on the engineering sciences. In addition to the relatively new degree programme in “Civil Engineering”, “Electrical Engineering and Information Technology”, “Mechanical Engineering” and “Biomedical Engineering” also received a top score in at least one category. The degree programme in “Electrical Engineering and Information Technology” was even able to secure 1st place in comparable degree programmes in Germany.

University of Applied Sciences performs very well in several categories

From the support available to students when starting their degree programme to the range of courses on offer, through to the contact with employers and the world of work, Landshut University of Applied Sciences once again lives up to its reputation as one of the most popular and highest quality universities in Germany. For the first time, digital teaching was also included in the ratings. In all of these areas, the degree programme in “Electrical Engineering and Information Technology” secured a place in the leading group. This statement is supported by the positive performance in the category of “IT infrastructure”.

In the subjects of “Biomedical Engineering” and “Mechanical Engineering”, the university mainly performed well in the supervision by lecturers, the organisation of the degree programmes, and the support given to students when starting their degree programme. The same applies to the “Civil Engineering” programme, which only started last winter semester. An overview of all the results as well as detailed information on the available degree programmes is available at http://www.che.de/che-ranking2022-schwaben-nieder-oberbayern.pdf.

Providing students with the optimum support on their academic journey

For Prof. Dr. Petra Tippmann-Krayer, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering, and her counterpart in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Christian Koletzko, the results of the CHE ranking provide confirmation of the high quality of the teaching and research. “We have set ourselves the goal of developing the wide-ranging skills of our students for their future careers on an optimum basis and supporting them in every area during their journey,” emphasizes Tippmann-Krayer. “The results of the CHE ranking are ultimately the proof that our efforts are bearing fruit.” Prof. Dr Christian Koletzko agrees: “We see ourselves as a team of highly qualified specialists in the heart of Lower Bavaria and are very pleased to receive this very positive feedback from our students.”

Close to the students

University President Prof. Dr. Fritz Pörnbacher was also pleased about the great results, which he mainly attributes to the hard work of the teaching staff at Landshut University of Applied Sciences: “We believe that it is very important to provide our students with intensive support. This is an area in which our size comes in handy. As a campus university, we are very close to our students. The short distances between the teaching facilities here allow our lecturers to find time for a personal conversation or two after the end of the lecture.”

The Centre for Higher Education Development surveyed approximately 120,000 students for the CHE ranking. More than 300 universities and universities of applied sciences (HAWs) as well as dual universities and universities of cooperative education were assessed. The CHE university ranking is therefore the most comprehensive and detailed comparison of universities in the German-speaking world. In addition to facts about courses of study, examinations, teaching and research, the ranking also includes assessments by students about the conditions of study and support in various areas at their university. This includes, for example, job market preparation, academic and practical relevance, teaching facilities, library facilities and IT infrastructure.
