Elgin meets Landshut

Delegation from Moray College UHI visits Landshut University of Applied Sciences.

With almost 3,400 students, 1,200 of whom are full-time, Moray College in Elgin is smaller than Landshut University of Applied Sciences in terms of student numbers. But, as Jackie Andrews, Head of Academic Partnerships at Moray College, said at a meeting with University President Professor Dr. Karl Stoffel: “our focus on business administration and engineering is certainly comparable."

Andrews, an Erasmus+ Admin Assistant, spent a week in Landshut together with her colleague Lorna Topp. The programme included a guided tour of Landshut, a Brexit debate with students currently doing an English course and discussions with Professor Dr. Faber, Professor Dr. Ivanov and Professor Dr. Kligge from the Faculty of Electrical and Industrial Engineering, Professor Dr. Gronover from the Faculty of Business Administration and Josef Stimmelmeier from the general studies courses.

TZ Puls as great vision

The agenda also included visits to the BMW plant and the TZ Puls in Dingolfing. The two Scots were particularly enthusiastic about the latter. "A logistics and production centre for application-oriented teaching is a great thing", Ms. Topp enthused. "That would be good for us, too, and it is part of our vision".

Among other things, the discussions between the Scottish delegation and Professor Dr. Stoffel were focused on the economic situation in the Greater Elgin area as well as student mobility. The possibilities of an exchange programme were also discussed. "In general, there has, unfortunately, been hardly any demand for this at Moray College so far," Ms. Andrews explained.

Stoffel was open to a closer collaboration with Moray College. "As a university, we attach great importance to international exchanges, which provide our students with many new experiences and help with their professional and personal development.”
